Welcome to the Very Small Optical and Radio Observatory website.
The Very Small Optical and Radio (VSOR) Observatory is a privately owned amateur observatory located in Waltham, MA. VSOR currently specializes in lunar, plantetary, and deep sky CCD imaging, direct and indirect very low frequency (VLF) detection of GRB, SID, and Jovian decametric radio emmissions, meteor radio echo monitoring via the FM band, and variable star measurement. The observatory also serves as a weather station (KMAWALTH8) and is equipped with a sky quality meter for light pollution monitoring.
The current VSOR setup consists of a 60 gallon trash can (TC-1) used to house a remotely controlled 8″ LX200 SCT, along with various radio astronomy instruments and antennas. The TC-1 is being used as a testing ground for remote operation of the LX200 and associated hardware and software.
The long term goal is for all equipment and instrumentation for VSOR to be housed in a 100% off-grid, fully automated and remotely controllable, 2.3 meter, domed observatory made by Sirius Observatories of Australia.
The permanent site for VSOR is TBD.
